In early drafts, I had Force ask for a lift. Didn’t seem right.

“No amount of training is gonna make me white…” ???? I’m sorry but what? Is this where we a gonna go, identity politics? Its already driven me away from Marvel. The vibe is getting from this comic is WAY different than the tone and themes in Our Super Mom. I’ll stick it out for the first issue just to see but I worry. There’s a lot of little things piling up here that arent my cup of tea.

The novels are about the same ch and world but are themematically and style wise very different. Same with Hardcase. I’m not continuing Our Super Mom here, so if that’s your cup of tea, this won’t be yours.
My original plan was to split off two seperate stories. A veronica mars/nancy drew kind of thing with the kids, and this story. Likely you would have enjoyed the other.
Two things are preventing the second comic from existing. One, i can currently afford to do only one comic, and two I havent found an art team yet with the ability and time commitment to do it.
I’m not sure what you assume making comics is like, but there is no money to be made in comics. Breaking even is itself a lofty goal. Novel publishing is no different. Unless you write porn, its almost impossible to survive.
This comic exists because I make enough money outside of comics to afford to do it. My illustrated books outsell my comics 3 to 1. My gaming stuff sells without any promotion. That’s why I’m now Corgi Press instead of Scott Comics.
I wrote Our Super Mom because I looked out at the con crowd and saw it was now 50% female and no one was writing for them, and no one was writing for kids. So I went and wrote for that audience. Now kids comics have returned, but comics for women are still lacking. So I chose that audience. As a small press, being different is how I stand out. Its how I do well at conventions in the face of compettition.
I still told my stories. Racism, gender, politics – those are all topics that are in Our Super Mom. Issue 2 had grandma telling her Mexican son that he could do better than a white whore. Its not in your face, but its there. I write about the human condition. Humans are ugly to each other. I also write about heroes, to highlight that we can also be good too each other.
The theme of this scene is about power and using it responsibly. The only consistent theme in all of my stories. This scene was not about rape or race or even about being female. Its about having the power to kill and when do you use it. Those other things were put there to make the internal conflict stronger.
As for where the story is going, its going to be about 20 somethings with powers with a 40 something mentor. It will be generational issues. It will be about the stupid things we do in our 20s and how our world views change as our arrogant opinions confront reality. It will also be about how we compromise ourselves as we age.
This is where I’m coming from as a storyteller. If it’s not your story, then by all means move on. I dont like everything some of my favorite authors have written.
On the other hand, If you’re willing to pay me $125 a page to continue Our Super Mom, let me know via Patreon and I’ll work harder on finding some artists.
