They put a bomb on an abomination that needs to be removed, along with anybody that is willing to associate with a freak against nature. They knew going in this could be a one-way trip and the more of the freaks they can take out along the way, the more meaningful their sacrifice.
How the nut-jobs got their hands on the required components for the suicide vest bomb is what gets me. It looks like it is loaded with some form of stick explosive, maybe dynamite, so they might have gotten it from a mining operation. Definitely time to check for missing inventory in nearby (and not so nearby) mines and licensed explosive techs. That of course all depends on whether it would actually be able to detonate; maybe it is just smoke and mirror or just a poorly made dud.

Oops, my memory was playing tricks on me. I thought we could see sticks, but these are just blocks, like blocks of C4, which is even more tightly controlled than dynamite. It would still make quite a bit of mess.

I’m thinking that a certain immortal Nazi is hooking those guys up with their equipment.

I’d like to test that theory of yours. Not the part about him supplying the equipment, the part about him being immortal. ^_^
